GET TO KNOW COLOMBIA
Colombia is South America’s second most populated country and it is home to an astonishing 10% of the world’s biodiversity. Fans of history and culture will enjoy Bogota’s many museums but will be truly impressed by the mysterious archaeological sites such as Tierradentro, San Agustín and Lost City, an ancient city hidden in dense jungle atop the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, a six-day hike from the nearest town. Medellin is a city reborn: art, tourism and an impressive new cable car network have helped reverse the fortunes of this rambling metropolis, which, in 2013, was voted the world’s most innovative city. The Amazon basin covers almost one-third of Colombia's territory, and few experiences can beat an excursion into this vast jungle. Colombia has enjoyed over five years of stable peace and is quickly becoming a booming country for its natural and cultural beauty. Don’t let the media fool you — Colombia is amazing!
Best time to travel
Year round, but December through March and July through August are the driest months. The main differences of note are in the highlands, where nights become chilly in areas of higher altitude. The lowlands enjoy a tropical climate year-round with little temperature variation, though more frequent rain showers will be noticeable in the wetter months of April to June and again in October and November. Peak season: December – February and semana santa (easter) Amazon: Uniformly wet all year.
